Krissy Mueller

Owner & Instructor

Krissy is a certified 95-hour kids yoga instructor and an E-RYT 500 hour certified adult yoga instructor. She has been a personal trainer and taught group fitness classes for 20 years and loves bringing health and wellness into the lives of everyone she can.

Yoga became a more regular part of her practice over 8 years ago and it changed every aspect of her life. Knowing what yoga did for her own well-being and seeing what it has done for her kids, made Krissy passionate about wanting to share it with others on a more regular basis. After a few years as studio manager and instructing many classes at B1, she had the privilege of purchasing B1 from former owner Cally Burkle. Her first year of owning the studio has been
amazing and she can't wait to see how she can continue to grow yoga in her community!

When not teaching kids yoga with Challenge to Change or hanging at the yoga studio, you will find her with her adjuncting at University of Dubuque, spending time with her 3 kids, husband, and many pets, hanging with friends, saving animals, and enjoying the outdoors.

Instructors

  • My name is Cally Burkle, instructor here at B-1 Yoga. I’m originally from Dyersville, and as a young child did my first headstands, handstands, and backbends at the Debbie Moser School of Dance. I practiced, competed, and performed gymnastics up until high school. After graduating from Beckman High School in 1991 and attended the University of Iowa, where I received a liberal arts degree. From there I eventually landed in Chicago where I lived for 10 years with a career as a real estate agent.

In 2006, I began practicing yoga to supplement my running routine. I found myself intrigued by the shift in my performance and strength while practicing yoga. I took my first Bikram (hot yoga) class while traveling to visit a college friend in Phoenix, Arizona (of all places!). I fell in LOVE! I came home and started practicing the same 90-minute 105 degrees structured class whenever I could find the time. In 2008, I attended a Core Power Yoga class and found the vinyasa hot yoga experience my new love and almost daily routine.

In the Spring of 2013, after coming back from a rejuvenating retreat in Koh Samui, Thailand, I decided to leave my fast-paced life in Chicago and return to Iowa to teach yoga. I enrolled and completed a 200-hour power yoga teacher training class at Core Power Yoga. Shortly after, I purchased the building at 185 Main Street in Dubuque and opened B-1 Yoga in April of 2014. I recently sold the business to Krissy so I could have more time to focus on my other business and have more time to hang with family and friends.

My other business is Gordon’s Tuxedos & Suits, located next store to the studio. I purchased both the business and building last March. It’s been an exciting year learning the tuxedo and suit rental business. If you need a tuxedo or suit, contact me for a 10% off discount on your next rental.

  • Austin is our newest instructor as well as a recent graduate of the 200-hour Teacher Training at B-1 Yoga and a 40-hour Trauma-informed certified teacher. When he isn't teaching yoga, he is a small business owner of two shops in Galena, IL. He also enjoys running (training for a marathon this year), hiking, and hanging with his lizard, Lukus.

His friends would describe him as unpredictable, spontaneous, and if enjoying drinks… on top of a table singing "Ice, Ice Baby", poorly.

He is super excited to be apart of B-1 community of instructors and looks forward to seeing you in his classes!

  • Kellie attended her first yoga class as a way to recover from marathon and triathlon training. She quickly learned there was much more to yoga then getting flexible.

Kellie received her 200 hour RYT certification after attending the Baptiste Institute’s Level 1 and Level 2 week long intensive trainings. In 2018 repeated Level 1 as an apprentice on the teaching team. Additional trainings through the Baptiste Institute include Art of Assisting, Advanced Art of Assisting, True North Alignment, Being of Power, and the Baptiste Teacher Course. When not teaching yoga or YOD, Kellie is either working at Dupaco as a Data Analyst or at home with her 3 boys. Kellie’s hobbies include hiking, biking, kayaking and swimming.

  • Megan began her yoga journey at the encouragement of a good friend and fellow musician in 2016 at B-1. A longtime opera singer, she noticed an almost immediate shift in her vocal performance and, with piqued curiosity, decided to explore this new dynamic and its correlation to her instrument.

However, the more time she spent continuing to grow in her yoga practice, Megan also came to know her time on her mat as an opportunity to turn inward, find her inner knowing and embrace stillness away from the busyness of her day-to-day life.

While COVID-19 put the kibosh on all of her scheduled performances in 2020, it also created space for her to complete her Yoga Teacher Training. At B-1, Megan can be found teaching traditional vinyasa classes, as well as helping yogis settle into a deep and meditative candlelight yin practice.

When not on her mat or getting back on stage, she is the Features Editor at the Telegraph Herald, where she covers all things arts and culture, as well as oversees Her magazine.

  • Holly received her Yoga Teacher Training from Body & Soul in Dubuque. As a lifelong runner and athlete, Holly became hooked on the physical practice of yoga when she realized how it transformed her athletic performance. Later, the mind-body-spirit balance of yoga became integral to how she lives her life.

Holly is also a certified kid's yoga instructor and a Pre-K teacher at St. Columbkille early childhood. She uses yoga and mindfulness regularly in her classroom to help her young students manage their emotions and develop self-regulation skills.

  • Meghan began her yoga practice in 2010 with a beginner series and instantly fell in love with it. Yoga was a great way for her to get some time to focus on herself while raising two daughters, and a great way to ease the stresses of the day and refocus herself on the things that really mattered while letting go of what didn't. She felt a calling to help others get what she had gotten from a consistent yoga practice and did her Yoga Teacher Training at Body & Soul in 2014. You will often find Meghan in our noon Express class-if not teaching, she is practicing. Meghan loves surrounding herself with healthy positive energy. Her belief is that the greatest gift you can give to the world is a healthy you- Mind, Body & Spirit.

  • Mae has been practicing yoga since 2005 and completed her 200 RYT at B-1 Yoga in Dubuque, Iowa. She practices many forms of yoga including hatha, bikram, and vinyasa flow. Mae's journey into yoga began with a quest for strength, flexibility, and toning, but it has been through her practice that she has discovered yoga also brings peace, acceptance and relaxation. She hopes to share these lessons with her students by helping them understand that yoga is accessible to everyone. When not doing yoga, Mae is a wife, mother, social worker and avid Cyclone fan.

  • Kristen began practicing yoga in 1999. The more she practiced, the more she tapped into yoga's countless physical benefits like improved energy, increased strength and increased flexibility. She then developed a deep appreciation for the subtle life lessons the practice of yoga offers. She completed her 200RYT in 2008 and 300 RYT in 2019. Today, her practice focuses on the meditative aspects of yoga. Whether she's teaching Noon Express, Flow 1.5, Aroma Flow or B26, she likes to instill a sense of peace and tranquility so students leave feeling re-centered.

  • Tom originally began a yoga practice in 2001 at the recommendation of his chiropractor, by doing yoga with DVDs and televised classes. Tom was very active and to get away from yoga, he began long-distance running and competed in many races, from 5Ks to Marathon races and long distance cycling races, and a weight training regimen. Because of the limited range of motion of these activities, Tom was experiencing a lot of tightness in his muscles and, in particular his hamstrings and back. In 2017, a coworker of his was a yoga instructor and encouraged him to get back into yoga. After attending 6 days of classes in his free week of yoga at B-1, Tom became a regular yogi, completing over 400 classes in less than 2 years. He was inspired to take his practice to the next level, and attended teacher training at B-1, completing the 200 hour program in early 2019. He has been teaching ever since.

In 2020, Tom began his quest for certification in Yin Yoga, and completed a 50 hour teaching course through Loka Yoga in Bali in January of 2021. The practice of opening up the joints, and stressing the connective tissue to open up energy channels was the perfect balance to the vinyasa flow classes he was taking and teaching. Tom also appreciated the meditative aspect of the practice.

Tom also has a long standing love of Yoga Nidra, which dates back to the early 1980s. Tom was a student of Aikido for several years. One of his Senseis finished classes with a guided meditation and learned in Tai Chi.  Tom delved further into the study of Nidra, reading several texts on the subject and started to incorporate it into his yin classes. It is a guided meditation that is referred to as yogic sleep. Through the practice, yogis arrive at a hypnogogic state between wakefulness and sleeping. It has been said that 1 hour of Nidra equals 4 hours of sleep.

Tom is currently seeking his 500 hour teacher certification. At the time of this writing he is 90% complete and should have it completed soon. Tom truly appreciates all of the yogis that attend his classes, and strives to guide them as best he can on their yoga journeys.

  • Hello! My name is Tessa and I am super excited to be a new yoga teacher at B-1. I am from and live in Dubuque working in my families business. My favorites in life besides yoga are being with my family and friends, outdoors doing anything, cooking, traveling, and my puppy, Lola. My yoga practice started early last year and it quickly became a necessity and passion. While never in my plan when I started practicing, the opportunity to learn how to teach the practice I became so passionate about was a natural next step, especially with the amazing 200 RYT training B-1 offers. I love a sweaty vinyasa style class paired with some great restorative poses, mimicking the balance of movement and stillness in everyday life. My goal in class is to connect the mind and body through movement, balance, stretching, and of course, heat. Add in some oils for aromatherapy and we arrive at the class I’m teaching. Come practice with me at the 4:30 PM Aroma flow every other Wednesday. Can’t wait to see you there!

  • Kristina is a certified RYT 500 and RCYT 95. She loves incorporating the use of essentials oils into her vinyasa style classes. She enjoys teaching all levels of yoga and her classes are for everyone. Kristina loves spending time outdoors with her husband and children.

  • Katie began practicing hot yoga in 2017 as a way to challenge and connect with her body. Her love of the mental, physical, and spiritual benefits of the practice led her to pursue her RYT-200 certification in 2020 and she’s been actively teaching ever since! Katie’s classes seek to develop the mind/body connection through challenging and energizing movements.

  • Throughout my adult life I have always been drawn to the practice of yoga. I love the fluidity of a beautifully sequenced vinyasa class and how when paired with the breath, the practice feels like dancing.

I started attending yoga class in college as a way to increase my flexibility because as a collegiate dancer, I didn't have the flexibility and extension that I felt like I needed.  Fast forward a few years and I still found myself leaning toward yoga as a way to balance out my physical lifestyle as a fitness professional.  I pursued my 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training certificate in 2014 as a way to deepen my knowledge of the practice and have the ability to teach classes, but I walked away from my first yoga teacher training with so much more than pose sequencing.  I learned authenticity, abundance, and friendship at a pivotal time when I had also become a new mother.  The entire experience was beautiful and impactful.  And yet, I didn't hold on tightly to my yoga practice and overtime I was rarely on my mat and generally consumed by the patterns of motherhood and daily life.   But like so many people, in 2020 my daily life dramatically changed because of the covid pandemic and after suffering and recovering from a tightness induced running injury, the yoga practice was once again drawing me back in.  However, this time was different because I was different.

For me, yoga has become the perfect ritual.  I come to my mat everyday because the practice grounds me and has changed me both mentally and physically.  I practice, study, and teach in the style of Awakening Yoga,  a modern yoga system designed to honor the ritual of traditional yoga with a practical and functional approach to asana.

I am so grateful to have the opportunity to share the style of yoga that continues to fill me up with gratitude and challenge my ego.  I hope my classes inspire a love of the ritual with a curiosity for the possible.

Outside of teaching yoga classes, I work for Challenge to Change as a yoga in the schools educator and studio ambassador. I  spend most of my free time with my husband and two sons chasing little adventures and pursuing many different seasonal interests.

  • Jess has been teaching yoga for 20 years and is passionate about sharing the value the practice has added to her life with others. She fell in love with the practice as a student and became a teacher, but will always be a student of the practice. She includes playfulness, curiosity and connection in her style of teaching and is so excited to join the special community at B1.

  • Molly is the owner of Challenge to Change Inc. right here in Dubuque bringing yoga and mindfulness to kids everywhere. She is an E-RYT 500, Registered Adult and Children’s Yoga Teacher, and holds a Master's Degree from Westen Illinois University in Education. Regardless of the role she is in—mother, business owner, wife, friend, or teacher—Molly joyously shares her mission for helping people of all ages cultivate happy and healthy lifestyles.

  • Millie strives to build community and empower students to use breath and movement to connect with self while taking the tools of yoga off the mat into their lives.

As a triathlete Millie came to yoga in 2006 looking for a physical practice. Through hot yoga she found an amazing practice as well as community and a mind-body-spirit connection. In order to deepen her practice, in 2016 and 2017 she attended the Baptist Institute level one and two weeklong trainings to earn her 200 RYT certification. Through Baptist training she was able to transform her Life, teaching and practice through asana, meditation and a deep dive into self inquiry. Millie has enhanced her training with Baptist’s Art of assisting and 3 Yin Yoga trainings with Joe Barnett, Josh Summers and Julia at Body & Sole. she enjoys practicing and sharing the meditative nature and release of Yin Yoga.

Millie has taught at Ignite since 2016 and now teaches Yin and subs power vinyasa classes.

Millie lives in Galena with her husband and four cats and enjoys hiking, swimming, biking, kayaking and making quilts and bags.

  • Kat is a Dubuque-born yogi, starting her practice in 2015 as a means of physical therapy after foot surgery. Her journey initially led her to falling in love with the physical asana practice, as it was the only form of exercise she found enjoyable. She became permanently hooked by the deeper teachings found in yoga philosophy. Kat took her yoga teacher training at B-1 in the summer of 2018. When she is not teaching yoga, she works as an office manager at a local dog training facility and is heavily involved In all things animal rescue. Kat's immediate family consists of: 5 dogs, 3 cats, a lizard, and her 4-year-old son.

  • Jaime Ellerie, LMT, CCT, RYT, was born and raised in Dubuque Iowa and graduated from Hempstead High School. After graduation she lived in Iowa City for five years, returning home to go to massage therapy school in 2000. At this time Jaime also completed her first yoga teacher training with internationally acclaimed yoga master Ana Forrest. Upon graduating from Capri College of massage Jaime jumped right into full-time massage therapy and yoga instruction.

From 2001-2005 she opened and co-owned Pure Prana Yoga where she taught yoga and treated massage clients. From 2005-2014 Jaime set out for an adventure! She traveled the world and worked both as a massage therapist and a yoga instructor in Mexico, Southeast Asia (including the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Cambodia), Alaska, and back to Mexico again!

After many years away from family, it was time to return home to Dubuque, IA. Fifteen years of working with her hands had taken its toll. Jaime started searching for modalities of massage that would not involve so much stress on her own body. In 2015 Jaime traveled to San Antonio, Texas and received a certification in ASHIATSU massage. When she returned home she felt so strongly about the therapeutic benefits of this work that she quit her job and started practicing ASHI full time.

  • Marisa started her yoga journey in college when everything was so overwhelming, she didn’t know how to keep everything straight! She came to class to disconnect from the world, but shortly found how absolutely and profoundly connected she became.. to herself and to everything around her.

After practicing for many years, she decided to take the leap into a teacher training that she knew would strengthen her understanding and commitment to her practice. She knew that by doing this for herself she could channel that energy into her teaching and find purpose in her life. She’s been teaching for 5 years now and is so happy to have found her yoga home at B-1! Her favorite class to teach is B-Power mix because it combines both the stretching and balance of the Bikram series, but adds in some variation with a Vinyasa style flow.. the best of BOTH worlds!
